Gné agus Spás

“Is próiseas fíor-thabhachtach é smaointeachas an ailtireachta san dhealbhóireacht. Is bun-eilimintí struchtúr, gné, spás agus eispéireas teamparálta sna healaíona phlaistigh agus an thimpeallacht thógtha. Is ionann an thábhacht don dealbhóir agus an ailtire é tusicint domhantarraingthe, smaointeachas coincheapúil agus an t-eispéireas amhairc agus tadhaill spáis agus gné.”

Comhdhéanamh a Inbhuanú

De réir Holger, foirmíonn ceird agus dearadh traidisiúnta comhthéacs luachmhar do dhearadh atá comhfhiosach don chomhshaol. Oileann tusicint sa tslí a rug ceirdeanna thraidisiúnta úsáid as acmhainní in-athnuaite le deachmaíocht íosta agus soláthair fuinnimh in-aithnuaite le forbairt slí bheatha níos inbhuanaithe agus táirgí glaise. D'fhorbair sé an fhealsúnacht seo le linn ama a chaith sé mar chúntóir taighde ag Tionscadal Eden agus Coláiste Ealaíne Falmouth. D'fhónn an fhealsúnacht úd le forbairt clár cónaitheachta sa dealbhóireacht-chomhshaoil agus i gceardlanna atá á chur cleachtas ealaíne 'is ceird inbhuanaithe ar aghaidh.

Canvas, Canopies and Yurts

Holger's interest in the built environment is a legacy of his five-year studies of interior architecture at FH Lippe in Detmold. While his passion for the plastic arts have become dominant, his interest in architecture never fully disappeared. Together with the practice of making traditional sails and curachs, it found its expression in the design of tensile structures such as yurts and canopies. Inspired by an interest in traditional sailing boats, Holger has designed several tensile structures and sail sculptures. He uses a 25' canvas canopy as a mobile bronze casting workshop, which offers flexibility and ease of set-up. For the Umha Aois experimental archaeology group, he designed a 20' Mongolian Ger (Yurt) as a symposium workshop. A 14' high sail sculpture, based on Lough Neagh fishing boats was a commission for Oxford Island National Nature Reserve in 2007.

Although Holger makes smaller sails himself, using traditional sail making techniques, he collaborates on larger projects with the professional sailmaker Dave Buchanan from Gweek, Cornwall. All structures below were made by Dave Buchanan (Tel. +44 1326 341165) in heavy duty 12oz flame- and rotproof canvas.
